The Seattle Mariners will take on the Athletics in a three-game series at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, CA. Game One of the series will get underway tonight at 10:05 p.m. EST.
Seattle kicked off the second half of the season with a six-game homestand and went 3-3 before heading out on the road to face the Angels (2-2). After beating the Angels 7-2 on Saturday, the Mariners' lineup went quiet on Sunday, scoring just one run in the loss. As for the A’s, after going 1-5 to start the second half, they swept the Astros in Houston over the last four games.
Luis Castillo will get the start for the Mariners. Castillo is 7-6 in 21 starts with a 3.30 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and .245 OBA. He has gone 3-2 on the road in nine starts with a 4.74 ERA and .303 OBA. He lost his last outing after giving up six runs (three earned) in five innings vs. the Brewers, but went 3-0 in his other July starts with two shutouts. JP Sears will get the nod for the A’s. For a moment, I considered going with the A’s ML after seeing them sweep the Astros in Houston over the weekend. But that was the A’s playing above and beyond how they typically play. Not that the Mariners are a great team by any stretch of the imagination, but I have no faith in Sears getting the A’s on the right path. I don’t have much in Castillo either, but more than Sears.,
