The Seattle Mariners (69-69 SU, 56-82 ATS) continue their series against the Oakland Athletics (60-78 SU, 76-62 ATS) in desperate search of momentum. The Mariners have seen their record fall to .500, and they’re now in serious danger of falling out of the playoff race completely. With the wild card spots taken up by Baltimore, Kansas City and Minnesota, Seattle isn’t going to make it without winning the AL West.
And that means actually beating the AL West, something the Mariners aren’t really doing at the moment. Seattle lost a series with the Angels, who have barely shown up since the All-Star break, and they might now lose another one to Oakland. Unlike the Angels, the Athletics have shown some fight and seem to genuinely care about their effort. And that means that this might gets worse before it gets better for Seattle.

When he pitches at home, he’s got a solid 3.15 ERA and an acceptable 7-5 record. His ERA jumps more than a run on the road, and things have only gotten worse as the Mariners have fallen apart.
Oakland has mostly prevented runs when it has played at home, playing to the under in 10 of the past 11 games in Oakland. The most recent game with the Mariners did go over, but that was because the total was so low that it was difficult to avoid going over. The Athletics will throw a bullpen game, and that’s actually been one of the stronger parts of their roster this year. With Seattle coming apart at the seams, the value is on the home dog.
