In Williamsport, the Little League Classic will take place this year in an attractive game between the Mariners and the Mets, representing a home game for the Mets. This is the second time the Mets have appeared in the Little League Classic on Players Weekend; they already appeared in a game against the Phillies in 2018.
The Mets were in desperate need of another win on Saturday. Given that they had lost their previous series against the Braves and had lost Game 1 of their series against the Mariners 9-11, the risk of losing the Wild Card spot with another loss on Saturday was high. But then Nolan McLean stepped up, allowing only two hits and, despite throwing four walks, holding off the Mariners' offense. Incredibly, it was only the Mets' third win in their last 17 games.
Edwin Díaz came in on Saturday to earn the save and give McLean the W in front of a crowd of nearly 43,000 at Citi Field.
