The Seattle Mariners will be in Minneapolis today for Game 1 of a four-game series vs. the Minnesota Twins. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. EST at Target Field.
Seattle heads into this game fresh off a 2-1 series win over the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. They took Game 1 on Friday, 9-4, before losing Game 2 on Saturday, 10-7, but then earned the series victory with a 14-6 win on Sunday. As of Sunday’s win, the Mariners are 39-37 with a 19-18 road record. They’ll give the ball to Bryan Woo to start the day. Woo is 6-4 in 14 starts with a 3.12 ERA and .94 WHIP. However, in eight road starts, he is 3-3 with a 3.93 ERA. Minnesota didn’t have nearly as good of a weekend, getting swept by the Brewers by a combined score of 35-15. It was the second time they got swept in a series this month (vs. Houston, June 13-15). They’ll give the ball to Bailey Ober to start the day. Ober was solid in April and May, giving up 16 total runs across 11 starts. But he has struggled somewhat in June, giving up 16 runs already (four, seven, and five). He is 2-2 in eight starts at home with a 4.22 ERA.

Both teams have been hitting the ball really well this week (Seattle, .299 over the last seven days with an average of 6+ runs per game; Minnesota -- .267 with an average of 5+ runs per game). But Seattle has a solid pitcher in Woo taking the mound to start the day, while Minnesota is going with Ober. Ober may have a good inning or two, but Woo should be able to keep the Twins lineup in check for as long as he’s in the game. I was thinking about taking the OVER, but I feel like the Seattle ML is the better bet.
