The Mariners have a better record than the Astros, but they trail them 2 games to 1 in the 4-game series that concludes in Houston on Sunday afternoon.

In Game 3, the Astros prevailed in a compelling pitching duel between Valdez and Woo. Woo allowed 9 hits in six innings and two runs, none earned, as the Mariners committed two errors. Valdez induced numerous ground balls, was hit four of the five Mariners hit, and issued four walks, but managed to allow just one run.

Raleigh, the Mariners' designated hitter who now has 17 home runs this season, went 0-for-3 in Game 3. Crawford and Julio Rodriguez also failed to respond, so Seattle's first three batters failed to muster a single hit in Saturday's loss.

Despite 29 wins in 2025, the Mariners' offense, which had taken off in April, is once again experiencing a period of low offensive production. In their last 10 games, they have only once produced 6 or more runs. However, their excellent pitching allowed them to win 4 games in a row from May 16 to 19 when they swept the Padres in San Diego.
