After winning 5 of their last 6 games in the month of April, the Mariners have lost back-to-back games to start the month of May. Their latest loss came last night to this same Astros team they are facing today. This will be the 2nd game of a 7-game road trip for the Mariners. After leading 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th last night, starter George Kirby, left the game and saw his lead disappear as the Astros rallied to put up 4 runs and take control of the game. Jorge Polanco’s solo homerun was not enough offense for the Mariners. The Astros had 5 guys accumulate their 7 hits on the night. Ronel Blanco did just enough to keep the Astros in the game before the 7th inning. He finished with 6 innings, 6 Ks, and just 3 earned runs. Today, fans could be in line for a pitcher’s duel. Logan Gilbert is 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA for the Mariners. He has also struck out 44 batters while walking just 9 others. Framber Valdez, of the Astros, is 1-0 with a 2.60 ERA. The Astros bat have seemingly come to life as they now rank 3rd in the league with a combined .264 batting average. However, this Mariners team is no joke on defense. A cumulative .208 batting average against is the best in the league.
