The Guardians will try to stay on the right side of the scoreboard today when they take on the Seattle Mariners in Game Two of their three-game weekend series at Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. EST; fans can watch the action unfold on Fox.
Seattle got off to a strong start in yesterday’s game with four runs in the top of the first. It took some time for the Guardians' lineup to wake up with a run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth. With a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, they stole the win away from the Mariners. Gavin Williams will get the start for the home team tonight. Williams is 8-5 this season in 26 starts with a 3.36 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and .215 OBA. He has gone 5-2 in 13 home starts with a 3.18 ERA and .215 OBA. As for the Mariners, Seattle will give Logan Gilbert the start. Gilbert has gone 4-5 in 19 starts with a 3.69 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and .209 OBA. He has not had his best stuff on the road, though. I expect Seattle to win this one, but after watching last night’s one-run win, the run line is not a recommended wager, and I don’t think the moneyline is a great play here, either. However, the Cleveland lineup has been struggling, batting an MLB-worst .179 over the last week and scoring all of 12 runs across their last five games. Seattle, on the other hand, has averaged 6+. With how poorly Gilbert has pitched on the road, I like their chances of scoring 6+ runs and possibly going OVER this TOTAL on their own. If they don’t, the Guardians will do enough.
