With their postseason hopes on the line, the Seattle Kraken need a positive result on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena.
The Kraken have lost four straight games, leaving them five points back of a Western Conference wild-card spot. They have gone 2-7-1 across their last 10 games and need to stop the rot before it's too late.
Seattle has enjoyed the most success this season when it has kept things tight in defense, but there have been problems at the back recently. Lane Lambert’s side has allowed 4.2 goals per game over the past 10 games.
On Thursday, the Kraken must do everything possible to avoid leaving space to operate for Nikita Kucherov and the Lightning. The Russian star has just become only the second player in NHL history with four consecutive 80-assist campaigns, joining Wayne Gretzky.
Kucherov has also taken his goal-scoring to a new level this season, becoming the league’s top scorer with 120 points in 66 games. Seattle was burned by him only recently when Kucherov racked up five points (three goals, two assists) in a 6-2 victory at Climate Pledge Arena on March 17.
Containing Kucherov has become the key to stopping Tampa Bay, and Seattle has a good opportunity to show it has learned from last week's mistakes.
