Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks close out the 2025-26 NHL campaign on the road against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night at Canada Life Centre.
Celebrini has had a spectacular sophomore season, racking up 112 points (44 goals, 68 assists) in 80 games, but his efforts weren’t enough for the Sharks to end a six-year playoff drought. The team simply hasn’t been good enough defensively to compete with the big boys. Ryan Warsofsky’s side has allowed the third-most goals in the league at 3.55 per game.
In their season finale, the Sharks will meet another defensively challenged team. The Jets have given up 3.09 goals per game, and their most recent defensive efforts have been especially bad -- they have allowed 18 goals across the last three games.
A matchup between two leaky defenses makes the over stand out as a good bet. Somehow, these teams have played out a couple of 2-1 games this season, but this contest looks to have all the ingredients for a fun back-and-forth contest. With nothing at stake for the teams other than pride, defense is unlikely to be a priority, and both sides have exciting offensive talent.
Winnipeg will hope to avoid getting swept by San Jose for the first time since 2016-17. It’s the final home game of the season for Scott Arniel’s men, and the players should be fired up to give their fans something to cheer about after shockingly missing the playoffs as last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winners.
