The 39-30-4 St Louis Blues take on the 16-48-8 San Jose Sharks on Saturday. The Blues are still just about in the hunt for a wildcard spot in the playoffs but they are going to have to continue their excellent recent run until the end of the season. They have another game after this against the Sharks in California where they lost 1-5 in mid-November. That has to go down as one of their most disappointing efforts this season and they will be looking to make sure they don't slip up again. The Blues have shared the goals around well with five players between 23-26 on the season. They include 22-year-old Jake Neighbours who leads the team with 26 and he will be looking for another to celebrate his birthday which was on Friday.
Fans in San Jose have endured one of the worst seasons in the history of the franchise. The players have given up on the season, winning just once in their last 19 games. That came against the Ottawa Senators who also were the team who lost to end the Arizona Coyotes' 14-game losing streak earlier in the season. They have lost eight straight on the road, being outscored 17-36 in the process, losing by an average of 2.38 goals. That has risen to 2.67 in their current nine-game losing streak. Mikael Granlund needs one point for 50 on the year, he and 21-year-old William Eklund have been rare bright sparks in an otherwise dark and dismal season.
