On Thursday, two struggling teams will meet at Madison Square Garden as the New York Rangers host the winless San Jose Sharks.
The Sharks showed some bite early in the campaign, taking the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks to overtime in their first two games. However, the team has since suffered four consecutive regulation losses.
San Jose is seriously struggling on both ends of the ice. The Pittsburgh Penguins shut out the team on Saturday night, and Ryan Warsofsky's men hold the league's worst defensive record, allowing 4.83 goals per game.
The Rangers also haven't had a winning feeling for a bit. Since opening the campaign with a 2-1-0 run, the Blueshirts have posted a 1-3-1 record over their last five games. While the Sharks have the worst defensive in the league, the Rangers are among the poorest offensive teams, scoring only 2.00 goals per game.
New head coach Mike Sullivan has had a tough time getting things to click in the Big Apple, and injuries have also impacted the Rangers. Defenseman Carson Soucy has only just returned from a four-game absence, while Vincent Trocheck will miss a seventh consecutive game on Thursday.
