Fresh off their first win of the season, the San Jose Sharks attempt to make it two in a row in a matchup against the New Jersey Devils on Friday night at the Prudential Center.
Macklin Celebrini had a hat trick and two assists, while Will Smith logged two goals and two assists in San Jose's much-needed win against the New York Rangers on Thursday. The Sharks entered the clash with a miserable 0-4-2 record and should now feel much better about themselves after triumphing 6-5 in overtime at Madison Square Garden.
San Jose's defense struggled again, allowing too many goals. However, they got off to a quick start scoring three first-period goals and ultimately secured a well-deserved victory. The challenge now is to replicate this performance against the Devils, which won't be easy.
Even with starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom and top-six forward Evgenii Dadonov on the shelf, the Devils have emerged as one of the best teams in the NHL early in the season. Since losing their season opener 6-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes, Sheldon Keefe's team has won six consecutive games.
In the first game, there seemed to be several issues within the New Jersey team. But Keefe's men have delivered quality performances on both ends of the ice in recent outings and must be confident of another good result on Friday night.
