The Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks will meet on November 13 in a Pacific Division clash featuring two teams trending in opposite directions. The Flames, currently enduring a disappointing start to the season, have dropped three consecutive games and sit near the bottom of the Western Conference standings. Their offensive struggles have been particularly glaring, with Calgary scoring just two goals combined in their last three losses.
Even when they manage to outshoot opponents, they rarely come away with victories, pointing to problems with shot quality, finishing, and timely defensive lapses. The Flames' power play has also been among the league's worst, hovering near the bottom in both conversion rate and total goals. At even strength, they've failed to generate sustained pressure, and their defensive zone play has suffered as a result.
In contrast, the Sharks come into this game as one of the NHL's hottest teams, riding a four-game winning streak and playing with renewed confidence. After a sluggish start to the season, San Jose has found its rhythm thanks to improved defensive structure and the emergence of young talent. Rookie standout Macklin Celebrini has been electric, leading the team in scoring and showing maturity beyond his years.
He's formed a dangerous top line alongside Will Smith and Tyler Toffoli, giving the Sharks the kind of scoring punch they lacked last season. San Jose has also tightened up defensively, allowing just a handful of goals across their recent win streak. Their penalty kill has been average, but their power play has come to life, giving them an edge in special teams battles.

Our San Jose Sharks vs Calgary Flames Prediction
Goaltending will be a key storyline in this matchup. Calgary has leaned heavily on Dustin Wolf this season, and while the young netminder has shown promise, he has not been able to consistently steal games for a team that doesn't offer much goal support.
With the Flames playing the second game of a back-to-back, they could opt to start backup Devin Cooley, who was solid in his lone start but has limited NHL experience. San Jose may start Yaroslav Askarov due to Alex Nedeljkovic's personal absence, but with the team playing solid two-way hockey in front of its goalies, the young netminder should get plenty of support.
Historically, the Flames have dominated this matchup, winning nine of the last ten meetings. However, the current form of both teams tells a very different story. The Sharks are playing structured, confident hockey and have found ways to win both high-scoring and low-event games.
Calgary, on the other hand, is still searching for an identity and struggling to generate momentum. Unless the Flames can find an offensive spark and shore up their defensive breakdowns, they may have a difficult time ending their losing streak. Given current trends, the Sharks appear poised to extend their run and leave Calgary with another frustrating result. A close game is likely, but San Jose's balance and confidence should give them the edge. Our prediction for Calgary Flames vs. San Jose Sharks: Under 5.5 goals.
