The Padres rested on Sunday after struggling at Petco Park during the opening series: they lost the first two games to the Tigers and won the last 3-0. They will remain there to face their division rivals, the Giants, who had a similar experience in San Francisco but were swept by the Yankees on the road.
Padres manager Craig Stammen made numerous lineup changes during the opening series. Perhaps the most productive hitter in this series wasn't one of the stars—Tatis, Machado, Merrill, or Bogaerts—but rather Ramón Laureano, batting at the bottom of the lineup, the only player to get hot in the 2026 season. We saw Miller throwing over 100 mph, earning the save for San Diego's first win of the year, and Walker Buehler will take the mound on Monday night.
For the Giants, Landen Roupp will take the mound, knowing his team's offense could let him down. The Giants recorded 18 scoreless innings to start the season, only managing one run in a 3-1 loss to the Yankees that completed the sweep.
