The San Francisco Giants (49-51, 22-27 Away) will try to get back on the right side of the scoreboard today when they face the Royals (41-60, 24-27 Home) in Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium in Game 2 of a four-game series. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. EST with coverage to be provided by MLB.TV.
After losing Saturday and Sunday to the Mariners, the Giants were hoping for a reset in Kansas City. It looked like they just might get it when Willy Adames hit a two-run shot in the ninth to tie the game up at 3-3. But a squeeze bunt by Nick Loftin in the bottom of the ninth closed out the win for the Royals.
Tyler Mahle is scheduled to get the start for the Giants on the mound. Mahle has had a rough season. He is 2-8 in 15 starts with a 5.31 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. He has been at his worst away from home, where he is 0-5 in seven starts with an 8.45 ERA and a .350 OBA.
As for the Royals, Luinder Avila is scheduled to get the start for Kansas City, who is listed as a reliever. But he has gone for 5+ innings in four of his last five appearances. He has a 4-3 record in 18 appearances (nine starts) with a 5.08 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. Avila has not had his best stuff at home, where he is 1-3 in seven appearances and three starts with a 9.68 ERA and a .380 OBA.

Our Kansas City Royals vs San Francisco Giants Prediction
San Francisco hitting only .213 since the break is a concern. But with the pitching matchup they have today, well—they should do a lot better. However, the Royals have been hitting .279 since the break, so they should have little to no trouble generating offense against a struggling pitcher like Mahle. The potential for offense is going to be great as long as the starting pitchers are on the mound. I doubt either lasts more than five innings, but the over could very well be covered by then already.
Our Giants vs. Royals Pick: OVER 9.5
