The Houston Astros will try to salvage a win in their homestand vs. the San Francisco Giants today in Game Three of the series. First Pitch for this contest is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EST.
Houston got the season started on a good note, beating the New York Mets, two games to one, in the season-opening series. But they have struggled against the San Francisco Giants in their second series, losing 7-2 on Monday and 3-1 yesterday. To break out of this rut, the Astros will turn to lefty Framber Valdez. Valdez started the season opener vs. the Mets, pitching seven innings of shutout ball, giving up just four hits and two walks while striking out four. So far, Valdez appears to be picking up where he left off last season when he went 15-7 in 28 starts with a 2.91 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 169 strikeouts. San Francisco will turn to righty Landon Roup in hopes of keeping the good times rolling. Roup debuted for the Giants last season, pitching 50 1/3 innings in relief with an ERA of 3.58; opposing batters hit .226 against him.
