The San Francisco Giants will duke it out with the Cincinnati Reds in Thursday’s season-opener at Great American Ball Park.
The Giants missed the postseason last year with a 80-82 record, but they enter this season with the hope of contending with top teams in a brutally competitive NL West division. Justin Verlander will take his talent and experience to a fourth team after joining the Giants on a one-year deal. The Giants announced that Logann Webb would start for them in the season-opener.
The Reds ended their Spring Training with an emphatic 13-2 rout of the Cleveland Guardians. Cincinnati finished fourth in their division with a 77-85 record, extending their postseason drought to four years. Cincinnati expects immediate improvement this year after hiring two-time World Series-winning manager Terry Francona in October.
