The San Francisco Giants conclude their series with the Chicago White Sox, and Justin Verlander is looking for a bit of luck to go his way. He hasn’t been responsible for his team losing the game in any of his past four trips to the mound, but the Giants came up losers three times and charged Verlander with the loss because they couldn’t do much at the plate.

In Verlander’s past four starts, San Francisco has given him a grand total of eight runs of support. It’s rather amazing that the Giants actually managed to win one of those games, although Verlander of course didn’t get the victory. The Giants have usually been much better than that, averaging 4.18 runs per game, and they face a White Sox defense that hasn’t exactly shown much resistance. But this has been a low-scoring series; the teams have combined for just five runs this weekend.
