The Phillies returned home after a road trip where they lost series, both 1-2, against the Red Sox and Orioles consecutively. Some considered this schedule unfair since the Phillies had just played 2 games in London before the start of the road trip.
It is the 2nd time in 2024 that the Phillies have lost two games in a row. Even so, the Philllies won game 1 vs. Padres 9-2 in a game where they once again came out as wide favorites on the betting sites (-195). The Phillies have won 9 of the last 10 matchups against the Padres, 8 of them with at least a 2-run lead.

Game 1 was a typical Philllies style blowout. In game 1 Schwarber hit 2 HR, Turner had 2 hits in his return to the lineup and Bohm had another big night with a 3 run HR and two singles. "It felt like we were on the road for a month," Schwarber said of returning to Citizens Bank Park. 

Everything was a party for the Phillies while the Padres accumulated 4 losses in a row. Statistically speaking, the Padres have had a solid year, but the 4.4 runs they average per game don't seem to be enough to compete. In Monday's game between Higashioka, Merrill and Arraez they went 0 for 9 with 3 strikeouts.
