The New York Mets (57-70, 29-35 Home) will go for the series win today when they host the San Diego Padres (68-59, 31-33 Away) at Citi Field in Queens, NY. Game time for this contest is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. EST with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
The Mets came into the series fresh off a weekend sweep of the Washington Nationals and went on to win the opener Monday night, 2-1. But the Padres bounced back in yesterday’s game and took the W, 5-2.
New York is scheduled to go with Robert Stock to start the day on the mound. Stock has had mixed results during his short time with the club. He started off with a solid 5-inning, 1-hit, 1-run performance against Miami (Aug. 2), but then he got clobbered by the Pirates (3 innings, 9 hits, 8 runs). While he only went 4 1/3 in his last start (vs. Washington), he surrendered just three hits and one unearned run.
As for the Padres, San Diego is scheduled to go with Michael King. He has gone 8-8 this season in 25 starts with a 3.41 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Teams have hit .219 against him. In 12 starts on the road, he has posted a 3-4 record with a 3.65 ERA and a .226 OBA.

Stock has shown some potential, but he will probably be on a short leash since the Mets bullpen has been solid this season (3.71 ERA). King has been a solid pitcher who should have a better record, but doesn’t always get much run support. Neither lineup has been great over the last week (Mets--.232; Padres-- .245), but the Padres have been better in this series. If the lineup can give him a few runs, he can control the Mets lineup enough to get the win.
