The San Diego Padres look to jump back into the winner’s circle as they gun for revenge against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Saturday.
The Padres’ unbeaten run to start the 2025 MLB season ended on Friday after bowing to the Cubs, 1-3. San Diego had no answer to Cubs’ hurler Shoto Imanaga, who conceded one run in eight innings. The Padres, batting .298/.369/.440 with 36 runs this season, will be counting on Nick Pivetta (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to get them back into their winning groove.
The Cubs have won their last four games, including Friday’s big win over the Padres. Chicago banked on their pitching all night, led by Imanaga, to contain the Padres’ high-powered offense. The Cubs hope starter Matthew Boyd can sustain their dominance on the mound in Saturday’s Game 2.
