Atlanta came into the series having won two of three against the Texas Rangers over the weekend, including the series finale on Sunday, 8-5. The Braves fell behind early Monday when the Padres scored one in the fourth, but then two runs in the fifth put them ahead for good.
Reynaldo Lopez is scheduled to start for the Braves. He is listed as a relief pitcher and has appeared in 22 games this season, but it appears Atlanta may be giving him a shot at a spot in the rotation. He’s gone five innings in each of his last three starts. He takes a 4-2 record into this game with a 3.50 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.

Neither offense did a lot in Monday’s game, but Atlanta has been the hottest-hitting team in the league since the Break, hitting .326 and scoring 32 runs across four games. San Diego has not hit as well at .280 with 28 runs scored in four games. Offensively, Atlanta has a slight advantage over San Diego. But after reviewing how the Braves hit in the series against the Rangers, I doubt they’ll have any trouble lighting up Buehler. The Padres may get a few hits off Lopez, but they will not matter. Atlanta will pull far enough ahead while Buehler is on the mound to win by at least two in the end.
