The Washington Mystics are looking to turn the tide in the positive direction when they play the high-scoring Vegas Aces today. Washington has been struggling over the last couple of weeks, having lost back-to-back contests and seven of the past ten. That downturn has seen the Mystics drop to 16–20 on the season, imperiling their post-season hopes.

Offensively, the team has yet to score in a somewhat predictable pattern, and they’ve been prone to end-of-game slides – as the most recent close loss visiting Washington after their lead in the game evaporated in the fourth quarter. As good as they’ve looked at times in front on defense, the Mystics have been up-and-down at home (10–8 at home) and are riding a two-game losing streak.

In stark contrast, the Vegas Aces have been one of the league's hottest teams. The Aces are on a nine-game-winning streak and are 23–14, anchoring themselves near the top of the Western Conference standings. Vegas has been scoring in excess of 85 points in the stretch and has a championship-level defense to go along with a well-balanced attack.

When these teams met in the season series in July, Washington scored a 70-68 upset win. That will help Washington feel optimistic but the situation has shifted: Las Vegas has been hot ever since, while Washington has tailed off.
