The Las Vegas Aces visit the New York Liberty on May 17, Friday, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
It's ring night for the defending champions Liberty, as they forge a rematch with A'ja Wilson and the Aces. These two teams faced in the semifinals last season, where New York defeated Las Vegas, 3-1.
The Liberty retained their core entering this season, with Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu leading the way. Stewart, a two-time MVP, averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks last season. For her part, Ionescu normed all-around numbers of 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.
As if that's not enough, the Liberty added veteran guards Marine Johannes and Natasha Cloud. Both these players averaged 8.0 points last year, giving more firepower to the defending champs' offense.
Meanwhile, the Aces still have the reigning MVP A'ja Wilson, but they still have to build chemistry with newly-acquired guard Jewell Lloyd. Las Vegas acquired Lloyd when they gave up Kelsey Plum in a three-team offseason trade.
It also doesn't help that the Aces will miss the services of Crystal Bradford, Megan Gustafson, and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus. Wilson and Lloyd surely have their work cut out in front of them.
