The Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun will go for their first win of the new WNBA season when they face off tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Tipoff for this game is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
Las Vegas started the season off with a tough matchup, the defending champions, the New York Liberty. It was a back-and-forth game that saw the Aces holding onto a one-point lead after the first, only to go into the break down 14 points, 47-33. They got within five heading into the final period only to see the Liberty run away with it, 92-78. As for Connecticut, they got off to a solid start against Washington with a ten-point lead after the first. But they couldn’t hold the lead as the Mystics chipped away at the lead until they pulled ahead in the fourth quarter (final score—90-85, Washington).
With the offseason rebuild, there were lots of questions surrounding the Sun, and the early returns are not promising. Generating offense was an issue last season. While that wasn’t an issue vs. Washington, their defense was lacking. As for Vegas, the first period was competitive, and each team won a quarter by nine in the second half. But it was a disastrous second period that did them in (New York outscored them 28-13).

A’ja Wilson is still a beast, and as long as she’s on the floor, they’ll have a great chance to beat anyone. Connecticut, on the other hand, is in search of an identity. They were a defensive-oriented team last season, but against Washington, it was clear that would not be the case this year. It's a big spread, but Wilson will keep the Aces offense humming while the Vegas defense keeps the Sun’s offense in check.
