There's a very interesting match due to take place at the WTA event in Austin on Friday, when Rebeka Masarova and Taylor Townsend go up against each other. This is a match between two players with very, very similar rankings. In fact, if the rankings are to be believed, this is as close as it can get. The Swiss player is ranked at 119, while the American is ranked at 120. In other words, there really shouldn't be much between the two players.
Both players have shown decent form in Austin so far, with both beating higher-ranked opponents. Masarova arrives here having won in straight sets during the previous round, while Townsend also advanced beyond the second round without needing a third set. It should be close, even if the early market favors Townsend quite heavily.

I really must say that I am surprised to see that Rebeka Masarova isn't overly fancied by the early market. The Swiss player has looked in great shape in Austin, beating some decent players, including world number 30 Xinyu Wang. That sort of effort tells me that she ought to beat a little shorter in the betting to get the better of Taylor Townsend, who is not quite at the same level as Wang.
Sure, Townsend played well to beat Bartunkova last time out, but consistency isn't exactly her speciality. This should be a close match, with neither player likely to run away with it. Personally, I think Masarova has achieved more at the tournament so far, so much so that she deserves stronger support than she currently has. I'd have her closer to +105 to win this, so if we can get +150, which we can at the time of writing, we should take it.
