Pumas appear to have put behind them the two unfortunate results they suffered at the start of Liga MX with two defeats. First, they lost to Santos Laguna and then Pachuca, and before traveling to the United States, they achieved an important 2-0 victory against Querétaro. Pumas' management decided to compete on equal terms with the Mexican superclubs, and in a move similar to that of their rivals, they signed their own veteran star, Keylor Navas, to be their goalkeeper.
In the Leagues Cup, where Pumas had never previously lost a group stage match, this continued after their 1-1 draw against Orlando City, which they later won on penalties. Without a doubt, Panamanian midfielder Carrasquilla Alcázar had an excellent final two matches with the university team; he scored the equalizer for Pumas and completed 22 of 27 passes in Orlando's final third.
In a first-ever match, Pumas will face Atlanta United, who lost to Necaxa in a good run; Atlanta conceded two goals in the final 13 minutes.
