The new Nations League season begins this week, and there's a huge Group A1 clash at the Estadio da Luz, as Portugal host Croatia. Both sides failed to deliver at Euro 2024, with Croatia failing to win a game or make it out of the group stages, whilst Portugal crashed out on penalties to France in the quarter finals. In the last running of the Nations League, Croatia made it all the way to the final, before agonizingly losing to Spain on penalties. Portugal were the inaugural competition winners back in 2019, but have failed to make the finals since then.

It's tempting to look at Portugal's poor attacking displays at Euro 2024 and conclude that this will be a low scoring game. However, it is impossible to ignore the huge array of attacking talent that manager Roberto Martinez has at his disposal. Any side with the likes of Diogo Jota, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes and Joao Feliz in their ranks, is capable of scoring plenty of goals and winning games, especially against a Croatia side lacking in defensive pace. Of course, Croatia are capable of causing plenty of problems themselves, so we like the look of their being more than two goals in this one.
