The men's national teams of Poland and Nigeria will face off in a friendly match this June that carries little significance, as both squads failed to qualify for the World Cup.
The Poles lost the UEFA playoff final to Sweden 2-1 in their last official match, a result that sealed their exclusion from the World Cup. The European team already played a friendly prior to this match against Nigeria, which did not yield good results, as they lost to Ukraine 2-0. Thus, the team captained by FC Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski lacks the footballing foundation to succeed in this international friendly.
Despite not qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, the Nigerian squad is currently in significantly better form than Poland. In their last four friendlies, they defeated Jamaica, Iran, and Zimbabwe, keeping two clean sheets, and drew the remaining match against Jordan. The absence of this African team from the World Cup is striking, given that they finished third in the Africa Cup of Nations held earlier this year.
The double chance bet on a draw or a Nigeria win is a solid option. When comparing the current form of both teams, the Africans have shown better performance, having already defeated Poland in a friendly match in 2018.

Our Poland vs Nigeria Prediction
For Poland and Nigeria, these kinds of friendly matches often serve as an opportunity to test new players on their national teams, players who will be able to tackle a new World Cup qualifying campaign leading up to 2030, since they failed to qualify for the 2026 tournament. Although there is still plenty of time, it would be wise for them to start rebuilding their squads now in anticipation of the generational shift they may face.
At least Nigeria has known since last year that it wouldn’t be competing in the World Cup, and its strong performance in the Africa Cup of Nations bodes well for the future. In contrast, Poland missed its chance to qualify for the World Cup at the end of March this year, so the blow they suffered is still fresh.
The prediction for Poland vs. Nigeria is: Double Chance: Draw or Nigeria!
