The Pittsburgh Pirates (13-9) will open a 3-game set in Texas with the Rangers (11-11) this evening.
The Pirates have had what seems to be a typical early start to the season for them. They always find a way to get their fanbase excited before getting mired in a handful of double-digit losing streaks. However, it is still early, and this Pirates team continues to look good. They are coming off a 6-3 win over Tampa Bay, where they took the series. Mitch Keller picked up the win while Bryan Reynolds paced the offense with 3 RBIs.
The Rangers are in 2nd in the AL West with their .500 record. However, the month of April has not been kind. They are just 7-10 on the month and are coming off a 5-2 loss to Seattle that cost them the series. They will try to bounce back here with Kumar Rocker on the mound. He had some control issues in his last start. Against the Athletics, he walked 4 batters and allowed 2 runs without finishing the 5th inning.
The Pirates will have Carmen Mlodzinski on the hill for them. He has been splendid this season and carries a 1.77 ERA into this contest. If he is on, it will be a really long night for the Rangers’ lineup.
