The Mets' sweep of the Giants was costly for San Francisco, which fell behind and is now three games back of the final NL wild card.

However, before the immediate replay at City Field in the series that kicks off the August season, the Giants first stay at Oracle Park to host the Pirates, the third-worst team in the National League, against whom the Giants must aspire to nothing less than a series sweep.

The first night game played in the San Francisco Bay Area between the Pirates and Giants had a game total line set by betting sites at 7.5 runs, low considering the Pirates' Keller has an ERA above 3.5 and had 10 L. However, in Game 1, the Giants went with the inexperienced Carson Whisehunt.

That the line remained at 7.5 suggests there's little confidence that the Pirates' batting, last in the MLB in runs per game, can really trouble any pitcher, regardless of their name.

For Game 2, the Giants will once again rely on veteran Justin Verlander, who has a 1-8 record; he finally got the first win of what is likely his final season as a baseball player.
