The Philadelphia Phillies will try to get two wins in a row against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday at Citizens Ball Park.
The Phillies are 3-2 in their last five games and won Friday’s series-opener against the Pirates 8-4. Batting .258 with 210 total runs this season, Philadelphia built an 8-3 lead at the end of the 8th inning before fending off a comeback attempt from the Pirates in the 9th inning.
The Pirates, last in the NL Central with a 15-30 record, stormed to a 3-1ead following 3-run blast by Alexander Canario in the 6nd inning. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh’s bullpen messed things up again as the relief pitchers gave up seven unanswered runs between the 7th and 8th inning, putting them in an 1-8 hole entering the final inning. The Pirates made a last gasp of attempt to make a comeback by loading up the bases in the 9th inning, in which they managed to get a run off a walk by Jared Triolo, but Jose Alvarado shut the door by getting the final outs of the match.
