The Pittsburgh Pirates (9-3 SU, 9-3 ATS) travel across the Keystone State to begin a series with the Philadelphia Phillies (6-6 SU, 5-7 ATS). The Pirates have started well because they’ve been getting timely hitting throughout their lineup. Four players with at least 25 at-bats have hit .300 or better, with Oneil Cruz sitting just under the line at .298.
The Phillies’ inconsistency stems from the same problem the Phillies always have: they can’t count on their bullpen. Philadelphia’s pitchers have an ERA of 3.92, but their bullpen ERA of 5.44 shows that they’ve been blowing games in the back half of the contest yet again. In their most recent series in St. Louis, five of the Cardinals’ nine runs came in the final three innings of the game.

The X-factor in this matchup is the wind, which is heading out to left field at 16 miles per hour. With a lot of space available to shoot for and the wind potentially carrying the ball, this could turn into an offensive explosion. Jared Jones has mostly been effective for Pittsburgh, but he’s highly dependent on strikeouts. If he isn’t missing bats, the Phillies can power their way to a fair amount of offense.
Ranger Suarez got to face the light-hitting Nationals last time out, but he’s right around his usual ERA of around four.
