The Los Angeles Dodgers host the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight for game 2 of their 3-game series. As the regular season begins to wind down, the Pirates' hopes for the postseason are on life support while the Dodgers continue to chase the Brewers for the best record in the National League.
Tonight’s game will have its work cut out for it to outdo last night’s contest. The Dodgers took a 2-run lead on a Mookie Betts two-RBI single in the 3rd and carried the 4-2 lead into the 8th inning. There, Oneil Cruz launched a 2-run home run to deep center off reliever Kyle Hurt to tie the game. With no one scoring in the 9th, the game headed to extra innings. In the bottom of the 1st extra frame, Tommy Edman singled in Kyle Tucker to pick up the 5-4 walk-off win for the Dodgers.
Tonight, Tarik Skubal will take the mound for Los Angeles. The Dodgers are just 1-2 in his 3 starts for them since being acquired from the Tigers. That said, he is coming off his best start for his new team. He only allowed 2 runs, but did not get much run support and exited with the Dodgers trailing 2-1 and picked up his 7th loss of the season. He will be locked in tonight against the struggling Pirates here.
