After the Angels won their series against the Giants, ending their momentum, the Angels now lost a series they thought they would win against the Pirates, losing by more than two runs in the first two games. Game 1 3-8, and Game 2, being struck out and losing 0-3.

Things didn't start well for the Angels in Game 2, as their top six batters struck out to start the game. By the end of the game, the Angels would strike out 12 times without drawing a single walk. Trout had a night to forget, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. The trio of Soler as leadoff hitter, Neto as second hitter, and Trout as third hitter ended up being unproductive, and between the three of them, they struck out 6 times.

The Pirates were also subpar with the bat, but Cruz, batting leadoff, hit a solo home run in the 5th inning, making it 2-0, and what seemed to be an irreversible game for the Halos, with Pirates pitcher Andrew Heaney's dominance over his former teammates. Finally, Pham drove in the run on the final score, 3-0 and the Pirates won again as underdogs.
