The Pittsburgh Pirates will meet the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium tonight for Game Two of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. EST. Despite being destroyed in Game 1 yesterday, the Angels are favored to win tonight.
‘Destroyed’ may be a nice way to put it. Pittsburgh recorded 18 hits in a game for the first time since the 2023 season in what ended up being a 9-3 blowout win for the visiting Pirates. Andrew McCutcheon was one of three Pittsburgh players to record three hits on the day, but the only one to record a home run, a three-run shot in the top of the fourth that put the Pirates up 5-1 at the time. Pittsburgh pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts on the day, holding the Angels' lineup to five hits (one home run) and three earned runs.
The Pirates will go with Andrew Heaney on the mound today. Heaney is off to a strong start this season, having gone 1-1 in four starts with a 2.13 ERA and .91 WHIP. He’ll face Jack Kochanowicz. Kochanowicz is not off to nearly as productive a start as Heaney. He is 1-2 in four starts with a 6.20 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with just ten total strikeouts across all four starts.
