Pittsburgh went into their Fourth of July weekend series vs. the Mariners on a roll, having won six straight. However, the good times ended on the Fourth as they were shut out 6-0. Then they followed that defeat up with 1-0 losses on Saturday and Sunday as well. As for the Royals, they won two of three games in their weekend series vs. the Diamondbacks.
Andrew Heaney will take the mound to start the game for the Pirates. He’s coming off a solid outing vs. the Cardinals on June 30 (6 2/3 innings, three hits, no runs allowed, and seven strikeouts with one walk). Heaney is 1-5 in nine road starts with a .250 OBA. Neither team is great, but Noah Cameron is a solid pitcher. He’ll be able to keep Pittburgh’s dreadful lineup from getting on track. Heaney could make the Royals work for it if he has another good outing. But the Royals will just get a couple of runs off the bullpen if they can’t score off Heaney. It won't be an exciting game with lots of fireworks, but it's one that Kansas City should win.
