Both sides are now pretty much eliminated from playoff contention, although the Tigers can still mathematically make it. The Pirates have started to find some form, albeit very late in the season, and actually head into this match as slight favorites to win. The Bucs' record currently stands at 81-78 with a Pct of .509. As for the Tigers, their record this season stands at 74-85 with a Pct of .465.
The Bucs have a great record against Detroit, winning five of the last six meetings between the two. Pirates have also won five of their last six games, including series wins over Kansas City Royals and St Louis Cardinals. The Tigers' recent form isn't as impressive. Despite winning starts to their last two series, firstly against Chicago White Sox and then against Washington Nationals, they ended up losing both series 2-1.
