The Pittsburgh Pirates (33-36 SU, 37-32 ATS) look to build on opening their three-game series with the Colorado Rockies (24-45 SU, 34-35 ATS) with a victory. Winning the opening game of the series hasn’t been an issue for Pittsburgh as of late, as the Pirates have taken the first game in eight of their past nine full series.
Winning the second game, however, has been less consistent. The Pirates did win the first two games against Los Angeles and Minnesota, but couldn’t get the job done against St. Louis. Pittsburgh hasn’t won a series finale in any of its past six tries, so if the Pirates plan on winning this series, a win here is crucial. However, Jared Jones has had issues on the road, giving up 11 runs in his past three starts away from PNC Park.

Colorado’s Ty Blach has been the rare pitcher who actually seems just fine pitching at Coors Field. In his past three starts in Denver, he’s given up eight runs over 14.2 innings. He’s more of a ground-ball pitcher and tends to pitch to contact, as he’s struck out three or fewer in nine of his past 10 trips to the mound.
Pittsburgh isn’t a great hitting team anyway and doesn’t have a lot of power. That means the Pirates aren’t set up very well to take advantage of the thin air in Denver. When Blach has been on the mound, it’s been more of a Rocky Mountain Low, as the under is 4-0-1 in his home starts.
