The Pirates, with their four-game winning streak, are spoiling the Reds' party, dropping them one game behind the Mets, tying them with the D-backs, and leaving them one game behind the New York team that holds the last Wild Card spot in the National League.

The Pirates won Game 1 and Game 2 of the series at Great American Ball Park against Cincinnati, allowing only four runs in Games 1 and 2. With this, the Reds have squandered a golden opportunity, as if they had won those two games against the last-place team in the NL Central, they would have been in the playoff picture right now, but that's not the case.

Oneil Cruz hit his 20th home run of the season in Game 1 against the Reds, making him the Pirates' home run leader, the team that hit the fewest home runs in 2025. In Game 2, they won without needing a home run, and the biggest star was Suwinski, who hit a pair of RBI doubles on Wednesday.

Wednesday was also an epic game for Skenes, as it marked his conclusion to the current season, in which he posted a sub-2.00 ERA and is sure to win the Cy Young Award.
