The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds open their three-game series at Great American Ball Park on Friday.
The Pirates have won three of their last four games to raise their record to 5-8. Pittsburgh won the rubber match with the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday behind impeccable pitching from Mitch Keller, who shut out the Cards for 7.1 innings, and the game-winning RBI single from Joey Bart in the 13th inning of a 2-1 win.
The Reds could not complete a series sweep of the San Francisco Giants after conceding a 6-8 loss in the series finale also on Thursday. After blanking the Giants in the first two games, Cincinnati gave up two homers in this game with starter Nick Martinez surrendering four runs in 5.2 innings. Despite a shaky night on the mound, the Reds still had a chance to steal a win in the extra inning but Giants slugger Mike Yastrzemski shut it down with a two-run blast in the 10th.
