The Pittsburgh Penguins (34-30-11 SU, 38-37 ATS) head to the nation's capital in a key rivalry game with the Washington Capitals (36-28-10 SU, 37-37 ATS). The Penguins appeared finished after getting just one point from a three-game road swing last month, but they've since rebounded with nine points in their past five games. They're now three points back with seven games to play, but six of the Pens' final seven are against current playoff teams, making this game critical.
Washington's swing through the Atlantic Division ended badly, as the Maple Leafs, Bruins and Sabres all brushed them aside. The Capitals badly want to stay in the Metropolitan Division for the postseason, as they have won five of six in the division. For the year, they own a 15-7-1 mark against division rivals but are just 6-8-5 against the Atlantic.

Washington's defense is not playing particularly well lately. The Capitals left Lindgren out to dry against Toronto, giving up 48 shots while taking just one penalty in the game. Lindgren isn't playing particularly well as of late, but he's getting little to no help from his defense.
Pittsburgh lost 6-0 to Washington when the teams met last month, but that was more bad luck from the Penguins than anything else. They outshot the Capitals 39-29 that night and were unfortunate to run into a team inspired by the death of the grandfather of Washington forward Tom Wilson. Pittsburgh is generating shots now and Sidney Crosby comes off a two-goal game. With that in mind, our prediction for Pittsburgh vs. Washington is for the Penguins to win.
