The Pittsburgh Penguins will try to stave off elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 4 at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
The Penguins started the series as favorites, but they have run into a hot goalie. Dan Vladar played a key role in Philadelphia’s last push to make the playoffs, and he hasn’t cooled off yet. Through the first three games of the series, Vladar has recorded a 1.33 goals-against average, a .947 save percentage, and one shutout.
Luckily for Pittsburgh, they may face a Flyers team without the services of Vladar on Saturday. The Czech netminder hasn’t practiced since suffering an apparent right arm injury in Game 3 of the series. Vladar is considered a game-time decision for Saturday’s contest.
If Vladar can’t play, the Penguins will face Samuel Ersson in the opposition crease. Ersson would have to make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut after a bumpy regular season. While he had a decent 14-11-5 record, Ersson allowed over three goals per game (3.12) and had a modest .875 save percentage.
Pittsburgh will be in desperation mode, and the star players will be expected to step up. Sidney Crosby has been limited to just one point in the series -- a power-play assist -- and there should be a lot more to come from him.
