The Pittsburgh Penguins face a must-win game against the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Wednesday at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Pittsburgh must avoid a third loss in the first-round series at all costs on Wednesday, as only four teams in NHL history have overcome a 3-0 series deficit in the playoffs. It has happened just twice in the 21st century, with the Los Angeles Kings being the last team to achieve the feat in 2014.
Dan Muse’s team has lacked an offensive spark in the series, finding the back of the net only two times in two games. The Penguins couldn’t get anything past Flyers goaltender Dan Vladar with 27 shots in Game 2. During the regular season, only two teams averaged more goals than Pittsburgh. Now, Muse must make the necessary adjustments to get the frontline back to performing at its full potential.
With the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, the Penguins have proven offensive talent that has thrived under postseason pressure in previous campaigns. After the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals against San Jose, Crosby has finished scoreless in three consecutive playoff outings in only two series.
So far, the Penguins captain has struggled to make a mark in the series against Philadelphia, but it’s difficult to contain him for long stretches. If Crosby can find top gear, the rest of the Penguins should follow.

Our Philadelphia Flyers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction
The cream of the crop make the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the NHL, and it’s quite rare for teams to grab 3-0 series leads. On Wednesday night, Philadelphia has a chance to do it for only the 11th time in franchise history. But they are facing a very experienced Pittsburgh team that should handle the pressure of the occasion well.
During the 2025-26 regular season, the Penguins suffered more than two losses in a row just five times, and one of those occurred in their final three games, when the team rested players for the playoffs.
Our prediction for Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins: Penguins to win.
