The Phoenix Mercury (20-13) visit the Golden State Valkyries (18-16) on August 19, Tuesday, at the Chase Center.
This is the third time that the Valkyries and the Mercury will face each other this season. Unfortunately for the Valkyries, they lost their first two games against the Mercury.
It also doesn't help that they're coming off a 79-63 loss to the Atlanta Dream. Veronica Burton led the Valkyries with 16 points and 5 assists, but the team just couldn't make a shot all game long. They struggled against the Dream's defense, shooting just 35% from the field.
Meanwhile, the Mercury recently snapped their two-game skid with a much-needed 85-82 victory over the Seattle Storm. Five Mercury players scored in double digits, with Alyssa Thomas producing an impressive triple-double line of 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.
Defense has been the Mercury's trump card this season, as they currently have the third-best defensive rating in the league. That doesn't bode well for the Valkyries, who only rank 10th in the league in offensive rating.
The Valkyries will miss the services of Iliana Rupert and Monique Billings. Meanwhile, Mercury rookie Monique Akoa Makani is listed as probable for Tuesday's game, as she is nursing a knee injury.
