The Philadelphia Union and NY Red Bulls will play back-to-back matches, both at Subaru Park. The first is a US Open Cup quarterfinal, and the second is scheduled for July 12 in MLS.
On their way to the US Open quarterfinals, the Philadelphia Union had a more than favorable draw, having reached this stage without facing any MLS team. This is a tournament that neither the Philadelphia Union nor the NY Red Bulls has won in over 20 years.
In MLS, the Philadelphia Union's two-match losing streak cost them the top spot in the Eastern Conference. However, playing at Subaru Park has gone more than well for them this season, and their top scorer and penalty killer, Tai Baribo, who scored 13 goals in MLS, returned after a three-match injury.
Meanwhile, things aren't looking good for the NY Red Bulls, who endured a winless June, at least with Swedish striker Emil Forsberg scoring a goal to close out the previous month against Minnesota and another on July 5 against San Jose.
