The Phillies and Nationals have had very commendable seasons; the Phillies because they managed to overcome a 10-game losing streak early on and are in a Wild Card position by the end of June. The Nationals, because few gave this young Nats team much of a chance, but they have turned out to be one of the most powerful hitters in MLB and are only one game out of a Wild Card spot with the halfway point of the season approaching.

At Nationals Park, the two teams are playing an electrifying series that had an unusual ending in Game 2. Marsh tied it in the ninth with his tenth home run of the year, Stott put the Phillies ahead with a three-run homer, and they went on to score eight runs with two outs in the ninth to win an atypical game 14-9. What wasn't so atypical was the Nationals' bullpen imploding; Lord allowed five ERs and took the loss against a Phillies lineup that featured its leadoff hitter, Turner, in six at-bats.
