The St. Louis Cardinals will host the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series this weekend, starting with Game One today at Busch Stadium. Fans can follow the action once the game gets underway at 8:15 p.m. EST via Matrix Midwest, a free and independent sports and entertainment network in the St. Louis area.
Philadelphia is not off to a good start on their current road trip, losing two of three in Atlanta to a struggling Braves team. They got a great start from Jesus Lazardo (six innings, six hits, one run, one walk, six strikeouts), but the lineup didn’t give him enough support. It was a 1-1 game until the 11th inning when Philly tacked on another run, but then the Braves got three in the bottom of the inning to steal the win. As for St. Louis, the Cards are coming off a dreadful road trip that saw them go 1-5.
The Phillies will hope for a solid outing from ace Aaron Nola on the mound. Nola has struggled to start the season, going 0-2 with a 6.35 ERA over two starts and 11 1/3 innings. St. Louis will start Andre Pallante on the mound. In two starts, he’s 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 9 1/3 innings.

I’m a little surprised that I’m going to suggest this, but this may be a great game to fade the public in regard to the TOTAL; 7.5 runs is not much, but neither team is hitting the ball well right now. Over the last week, the Phillies have hit just .210 and the Cardinals .241; both averaged four runs per game. Aaron Nola is much better than he’s played so far, and Pallante is pitching well. My only concern is that both bullpens could give it away.
