The New York Mets will try to end their homestand on a high note with a win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of their three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. EST at Citi Field.
New York got five solid innings out of starter Griffin Canning in yesterday’s game (seven hits, one earned run, seven strikeouts, and one walk). The Mets' lineup gave him the lead early with a run in the first and then regained it with another in the second after the Phillies got on the board with a run in the top of the second. Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez struggled through two innings before leaving due to left forearm soreness. Zach Wheeler will start the day on the mound for the Phillies. Wheeler is 2-1 after five starts with a 3.73 ERA and just a .99 WHIP. However, he has given up a home run in each of his five starts. The Mets will hand the ball to David Peterson to start the day. Peterson has played well so far this season, going 1-1 in four starts with a 3.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. He’s given up two home runs this season, both in his first start vs. the Marlins.
