The Philadelphia Phillies (50-41) will look to bounce back after a rough series with the Royals tonight. They continue their road trip and begin a series with the Cincinnati Reds (41-48).
The Phillies lost 2 of the 3 games in their series in Kansas City over the weekend. Their latest game was an ugly 15-1 blowout that took place last night. Cristopher Sanchez was not himself as he allowed 9 earned runs over just 3.1 innings of work. It was the most Sanchez has given up in recent memory. Not only was he bad, but the lineup could not produce more than 1 run against a starter that was carrying a 4.77 ERA.
The Reds are coming off a similar experience in their previous series. They too lost 2 of 3 to their opponent, the Baltimore Orioles. In those 3 games combined, the Reds were only able to muster a total of 8 runs. That did not come as a complete shock, considering they are 29th in the league in combined batting average and 23rd in total runs scored.
Zach Wheeler and Andrew Abbott will be on the mound tonight for their respective teams. Both starters have solid ERAs on the season and are each facing lineups that have not been producing much lately.
